General practitioners (GPs) treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment. They focus on the health of the whole person combining physical, psychological and social aspects of care. GPs provide routine health care (e.g., physical examinations, immunizations) and assess and treat many different conditions, including illnesses and injuries. They often have regular, long-term patients and provide ongoing medical care to both male and female patients in all age groups. Neurologist provides diagnostic evaluation, treatment and management for conditions related to affect the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves and muscles which activate movement and transmit sensation from all parts of the body to the brain). Neurological disorders and conditions include stroke, multiple sclerosis, headaches, peripheral neuropathy (disease affecting the nerves) including chronic neuropathic pain, Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders (eg tremor), Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), epilepsy, spinal cord diseases, muscle diseases like muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, brain tumours, functional disorders (symptoms which cannot be explained by neurological damage).
